Our Annual Heather Cup took place this year on the grounds of Terenure College from May 27th to May 30th and we had a most enjoyable few days of sunshine (well it wasn’t raining!) and soccer.

This year we had the biggest ever number of teams, we had 19 boys teams and 18 girls teams.  This meant a packed schedule of 82 matches over the 4 nights!

Well done to all the 333 children from 3rd to 6th class in St. Pius X boys and girls schools for taking part, special mention to all the 6th classers playing for the last time, for whom the Heather Cup has been a big part of the St. Pius national school experience.

This year the team led by Sean Browne & Matthew Cahill won the boys tournament, and the team led by Harlow Tallon and Emily Ward won the girls.  As always we were entertained throughout the tournament by some great skill and of course the nail biting penalty shoot outs!

Thanks to all those who helped make this possible.  Special mention to the pitch supervisors – who are now honorary committee members –  Robbie Tallon, Conor Griffin, Brian Devaney, Simon Carroll, Anne Linton and Dave Palmer, the tournament could not run without your support.  Thanks to the school secretaries Karen & Natasha for managing enrolment and the many questions thrown at them, the principles for supporting the event each year, the Terenure TY students for refereeing and carrying out linesman duties, our final night ‘pro’ ref’s, Terenure college for allowing us use their pitch’s each year and in particular Shauna Pearse for coordinating the event for us.
