St. Pius X Parents’ Association will hold their AGM next Wednesday, 20th of September, at 8pm in the GP Room in the girls’ school.

We would love it if you could join us for a glass of wine on the night and we can update you on our activities in the last year and how all your support has helped both schools.

Dear Parents/Guardian:
The Parents’ Association will be holding a fundraising Cake Sale & Baking Competition for the pupils of St. Pius X on
Friday, 16th June, in the school hall (Drop off before 9 am).
Baking Competition – UNDER THE SEA THEME

We are seeking St Pius X Star Bakers to create their best “Under the Sea” themed cookie, brownie, cupcake or cake.
The competition is split into different class categories, each category will be represented by the Boys School and the Girls School, judging being separate between the boys and girls. All competition winning entries will be sold on the day but photos will be taken of the winners and put up on the PA website after the event.
Here’s how you can help:
● Bake and/or donate cakes, buns and biscuits to the Cake Sale.
● Help out on the day – we are looking for volunteers to give 1 – 2 hours of their time to help out on the day. If you can spare some time please contact the PA contacts listed below.
● Support the Cake Sale & Coffee Break (from 1.00 p.m.) – come along and support the cake sale by staying to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and a nice treat!
Please note the competition entry (1 item per entry) should be kept separate from the rest of the batch you are donating(see details overleaf).

Also please mark clearly any items that are gluten free.
Please also do not hand in any cake stands or plastic containers as these will not be returned. Please place donations in disposable containers/foil etc.

Transition from Pre-School to Primary School – Free Information Sessions for Parents

Dear Parents,

National Parents Council (NPC) would like to inform you about free interactive online sessions that NPC is running from the 22nd to the 26th of May 2023 for parents on the transition of your child from Pre-school to Primary School.

The transition from pre-school to primary school can be one of the most important transitions that your child will make. By providing this programme for you, we can support you to support your child to make a smooth transition between pre-school and primary school. The success of this transition can benefit your child all the way through primary school providing better outcomes for your child socially, emotionally and educationally.

NPC will be running FREE, online webinars on this transition during the week of the 22nd of May at different times. If you would be interested in attending (virtually) one of these webinars please register your details here.

Please note these sessions will be interactive allowing parents to participate and hence places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

National Parents Council: Free internet safety information sessions for parents of primary school children

Hello parents,

‘While the internet undoubtedly presents fantastic opportunities for children, it is equally clear that there are valid concerns about children spending too much time online, accessing inappropriate content, and communicating with people with intent to harm or exploit them. As parents our natural desire is to keep our children safe.’

Keeping this in mind, National Parents Council is providing a series of freeInternet Safety Information Sessions specifically designed for parents of primary school children! Each virtual session aims to give you information and skills to be able to engage in your children’s online lives. It covers the benefits and risks of the internet and provides hints and tips for parents, helping children be effective, responsible, and safer Internet users.

Extra – Curricular classes are back !!

Thursday Extra-Curricular Classes, Homework Club and Swimming Classes  

St. Pius X Parents’ Association are delighted to confirm that we intend to recommence Thursday extra–curricular  classes, homework club and swimming classes for the school year 2022/2023. Further details on the options  available are set out below.  

Thursday Extra-Curricular Classes  

Dates: Classes will run for 22 weeks from 22nd September to the week of St. Patrick’s Day (excluding mid-terms  and Christmas break).  

Time: All classes will run from 2.35pm – 3.35pm.  

Cost: €90 for 22 weeks  

Venue: All classes will take place on school grounds.  

Drop off / collection: Parents / guardians of children from Junior and Senior Infants will be required to drop and  collect their child to and from the classroom allocated for their chosen activity. Parents / guardians of all other  children should make their own arrangements for collection.  

Minimum numbers: Please note that we must have a minimum number of children to run any class. If we do  not reach the minimum number, any payments taken will be refunded.  

Supervision:  

o The Parents’ Association are delighted to be in a position to recommence Thursday extra-curricular classes.  The children who participate in the classes always really enjoy them. However, in order to run the classes  successfully, parental involvement is required.  

o As part of the enrolment process, parents / guardians will be requested to select one Thursday when they  are available to assist with supervision of the classes. Supervision involves sitting in reception with a member  of the PA and being available in case of any emergencies. Classes cannot run and unfortunately will be  cancelled unless there is adequate parental supervision available.

2nd to 6th ClassChildren learn languages best when they’re young. Learn to speak Spanish in a fun environment, through music, activities, drama and play. Vámonos!
Chess2nd to 6th ClassChess is an excellent game for kids. It teaches them strategic thinking, logic and it’s fun too!
Knitting & Sewing Club3rd to 6th ClassKnitting & sewing classes for kids from beginners to the more advanced. Children learn a fun new skill or improve what they already know.
*A list of required materials will be provided by the class teacher.
Debating3rd to 6th ClassThe skills the children will learn in Debating will enrich their
cognitive and language abilities, encourage their confidence as well
as being lots of fun!
Tech Masters5th & 6th ClassA class that explores the emerging and exciting area of digital education through hands on activities. We will make use of iPads, Chromebooks, programmable Lego and Virtual Reality headsets to explore programmes like Scratch coding, Minecraft, VR software and much more!

 

Homework Club
Homework club provides a calm environment where pupils can do their homework without distractions under the supervision of teachers from the two schools.

Homework club will run every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 2.35pm – 3.35pm.
Term 1 will commence on Monday 5th September and run until Tuesday 20th December. During enrolment, parents will be able to book one, two or three days (for example, you can choose to enrol your child on Mondays only). Homework club costs €5 per day and is booked on a term by term basis.
